Bridging Barne Barton: The Island Stories is a social history project in Barne Barton. The project aims to capture a picture of the area at a time of change. Fotonow CIC have been working with residents and volunteers in the area since September 2017, recording interviews, gathering and archiving old photos, forming a collection of local history books and organising events, artists’ photography workshops, history walks and exhibitions.
Central to the project is the Island Stories website where we share the interviews we record, the research we gather and are building a picture of the Barne Barton estate and its community through the years.
Fotonow and The Island Stories can offer volunteers training in skills such as audio recording, WordPress, photography and archival research. By developing these skills within the community the project can be driven by local interests and can showcase stories that might otherwise go untold.
To volunteer, contribute a story, photos or anything else relating to memories of Barne Barton contact lisa@fotonow.org or call 01752 560667
This work is generously funded by Clarion Futures, Heritage Lottery Fund and North Yard Community Trust.
