Fotonow CIC have awarded BA(Hons) Youth and Community Work student Bridey Borda a £4,000 study bursary.
Thanks to recent funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, North Yard Community Trust and Clarion Future towards The Island Stories social history project in Barne Barton, Fotonow were able to support a Barne Barton resident to study at Marjon. Based in Plymouth since 2010, Fotonow has worked regularly in Barne Barton and is delighted to have the opportunity to develop the social history project over the next 12 months.
Matthew Pontin from Fotonow said “We’re beginning to explore how Fotonow can really make a difference in Plymouth, how our work can support communities in working together. The Island Stories will capture Barne Barton’s social history and help redefine the area during a period of regeneration. Offering Bridey a bursary to study is really exciting, the costs of studying can be daunting and we imagine the study bursary will be useful as Bridey begins a journey into youth and community work.”
Bridey Borda, recipient of the Fotonow bursary said: “I applied for the Fotonnow Bursary because I thought that it would be a big help towards my studies, I think the social history project is important for Barne Barton as it is enabling residents to come together to share memories and build friendships within their community. I am studying youth and community work at Marjon, I chose this course because I have been a volunteer youth worker/Ambassador for the past 3 years, and grew up in a youth work oriented family.”
Fotonow aim to showcase outcomes of their social history project at Plymouth History Festival in May 2018, where Bridey will share work share has developed over the past months. Also there will be a wrap up event in December 2018.
